Avril worked for many years in Natural History Photography and film making. Many of her photos have been published in books and magazines and she still writes articles for magazines which she illustrates with her own photos. In 1985 she won the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Other Animals Catogary with a photograph of a Dolomedes spider catching a fish. In 2000 one of her photographs of a Barn Owl was used as a second class Millenium stamp by the Royal Mail.
